Woody's Grille

Woody's had a nice atmosphere, and plenty of elbow room, but I wasn't too impressed with the food (or the coffee).

As a courtesy to MOB I asked about the corned beef hash... its from a can. Sorry dude.

I ordered my favorite, eggs benedict, and was sorely disappointed. The eggs were barely cooked, and when I say that I mean the whites were not even close to firm, still runny. To top it off there was hardly any hollandaise on it. Nasty. They did include asparagus on the side, as well as some "fresh" fruit.

The wife ordered the "Dark (something) Omelette". It was actually pretty decent.

Overall the bill was ~$22 for two, sans tip.

We probably won't go there again.

Pizza Luce

Don't judge this book by the "Pizza" cover! Pizza Lucé (loo-chay) has one of the best breakfasts in all of the Twin Cities, and I've tried many. They offer many inventive spins on breakfast classics. Try the pesto eggs benedict, the Western omelette, or if you're feeling really decadent, the french toast, which is layered with brie and topped with whipped cream and strawberries--the syrup is even filled with walnuts and bananas. The hash browns are excellent, and come with chives and sour cream. The coffee is good and strong, the staff is attentive and friendly. They also have excellent Bloody Marys and mimosas if you're in need of a drink. Street parking is free on Sundays.

Capitol View Cafe

Capital View is THE place for breakfast. The Cajun Breakfast is my fave with crunchy hasbrowns, eggs to perfection and ladeled with spicy hollandaise. I don't often get out of the house for breakfast but when I do, it's gotta be Capital View! Great family owned business.

Bridgeman's Embers

This Bridgeman's Embers looks basic on the outside, but on the inside they do the best eggs I have ever had. My standard is simple, but difficult to achieve. The eggs need to be thoroughly cooked (so nothing's runny) but not have any brown - at all! Aside from that, they serve Pan O'Gold wheat bread, a very tasty choice and the hash browns are always crisp. Coffee is refilled often and your order comes out quickly. Plus, they have daily specials (even weekends) so breakfast is dirt cheap. Service is good, but at times over attentive. Also, you have to be comfortable with an older crowd. Red hat groups eat there as do retired railroad workers, etc... All in all, this is a place that serves really good, basic breakfast, at very affordable prices.

Eden Avenue Grill

The Eden Avenue Grill hugs the western side of Hwy 100 near the 50th Street exit in Edina. Built in a generic shell, the Grill serves a solid but generic breakfast. All the basics are represented: omlettes, standard egg/meat combos and a reasonable list of side orders.

The coffee is very good, the service is nice (but slow) and the general vibe is an older, richer clientele spaced out in odd table layouts and always looking for a refill on something.

It is better than Perkins but if you are in need of a real breakfast fix, head more into SW Mpls and go to Vincents, Hot Plate or Gigis. Better than some but lacking any authentic breakfast ambience to make me want to go back.

If you have to meet an Edina hockey mom for a Saturday breakfast before going to the rink...well, you could find worse.
